Adesokan Adedeji Emmanuel, the Nigerian skit maker better known as Shank Comics, says his father “converted from Islam to Christianity because of food”.
Shank brought the revelation to light during an interaction with a fellow streamer at Kai Cenat’s Streamer University bootcamp.
The three-day event, held at Akron University and hosted by US streamer Cenat, brought together emerging content creators for mentorship, networking, and surprise giveaways.
During a casual chat with a fellow streamer, reportedly Canadian, Shank expressed his excitement about the opportunity and even hinted at a possible visit to Canada.
The conversation took a humorous turn when the streamer asked about Shank’s religion.
“I am a Christian,” Shank replied in a now-viral clip.
When questioned about why he once dressed like a Muslim, the comedian explained that his father originally came from an Islamic background but converted to Christianity after a church gave him food “when he was so hungry”.
“I am a Christian. I have a Muslim name though. My Muslim name is Saheed. My daddy was a Muslim,” he said.
“Then there was one time he was f**king hungry, then one church gave him food and he became a Christian. My daddy is so cheap. He was just hungry.”

Shank, who also won $10,000 during one of the sessions at the varsity, is a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
He started his career as a stand-up comedian during his undergraduate days before making his foray into skit-making.
