On Friday, Chimezie expressed gratitude to Davido for sample credit of his 2010 hit single ‘Because of English’ in ‘With You’ his collaborative work with Omah Lay while dancing to the song.

Davido also appreciated the veteran for being an inspiration and expressed his desire to meet him in person.

In an Instagram post on Monday, the ‘With You’ hitmaker shared a video showing Chimezie arriving at his location in a luxury car.

The veteran was ushered into what appeared to be a restaurant, where they were waiting to be served, chatting, and singing along to some of his songs.

Davido’s verse in ‘With You’ — “If I speak English, oh-oh, Cho-cho-cho, no working, I no wan punish, woah, woah. I want to punish you, idiarabanko” — closely mirrors Chimezie’s original lyrics, coming across as a creative spin or tribute to the veteran’s signature lines.

This isn’t the first time entertainers have reconnected with veteran singers.

In July 2024, Brain Jotter visited highlife legend Mike ‘Gentleman’ Ejeagha after using his song ‘Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche’ in one of his viral dance skits, which helped bring renewed attention to the classic.
